The Straw Dot was once a rare species in Warwickshire. In the 1960's, a slow resurgence in numbers was apparent. Into the 1970's and colonies were discovered at Oakley Wood, Oversley Wood, Hampton Wood, and Tile Hill Wood. It has since dispersed more widely across the county and can be found in a wide range of grassy habitats. Its increase in numbers in the county is likely to be due to milder winters.
Damp, grassy meadows and woodland rides are its prefered habitat and it can be seen on the wing from dusk.
The Straw Dot is on the wing in two generations, the first from June to late July and the second from August to October.
